WHAT IS LOCAL SCOOP?

We know what it feels like to look down at a grocery cart filled with as much plastic as food. Local Scoop is a package-free food store that provides an alternative to this traditional grocery shopping experience.

Our store enables customers to purchase whole foods without the use of single-use plastics. Our bulk food refill store allows you to shop for nourishing foods that are good for you, your family, and the planet. We believe that buying quality food shouldn’t cost you or the planet.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Simply bring your own containers from home – jars, Tupperware, bags, or boxes – and fill up with as much or as little as you need.

We also provide 100% post-consumer recycled paper bags and have free, sanitized jars in the store if you come without a container.

We are California, through and through. We are owned and operated by passionate locals living within our community. We are created by you, for you.

Our suppliers are as local as we can make them, and just like you and I, they share values of low-waste living and sustainability because we care about the planet.

Our values are simple: reduce single-use plastics and waste, provide food that is nourishing, and promote environmental stewardship in our beachside town.

IS IT CLEAN/SAFE?

All containers brought to the store must be clean, dry, and empty. We ask that you place a food-grade, stainless steel funnel between the scoop/food dispenser and the container you brought from home as an additional layer of protection. Clean and dirty labels will separate funnels for each product. Our food bins will have a scoop that is washed, dried, and sanitized at regular intervals to ensure the highest level of safety and cleanliness in our store. We have regular deep cleanings of the store and follow FDA guidelines for food safety, handling, and storage.

Local Scoop is North County San Diego's first package-free grocery store. Our goal is waste-free food that is nourishing and wholesome. No plastic, no misleading labels, and no ingredients you can't read or pronounce. We carry the foods you love without creating single-use packaging you hate.
